Eligibility :

Students who are enrolled in an MS/PhD (or equivalent) program in Statistics or related fields on October 15, 2019 are eligible. Women and under-represented minorities are especially encouraged to apply. IISA membership is not required. Winners of the previous IISA student paper competitions are not eligible.

Process :

Eligible students are invited to submit a paper in a Student Paper Competition at the IISA Conference. Up to ten student papers (5 in Prob/Th/M category and 5 in Applications category) will be shortlisted for an oral presentation. The shortlisted students will present their work at the IISA conference in Mumbai. Winners from each category will receive cash awards and certificates.

Some financial support will be provided to the shortlisted students. In order to receive the financial support, students must register for a workshop (there will be 3 or 4 workshops) and must attend the conference for at least 4 days. IISA will reimburse all the shortlisted candidates up to INR 10,000 (up to USD 500 for students enrolled in a US institution). Shortlisted students must register by October 15th, 2019. Papers that are not selected for the oral presentation will be considered for the student poster competition. Students can also present their work in a contributory session.

Selection :

The competition winners will be chosen based on the quality and content of these presentations and will be announced at the conference. An awards subcommittee selected by the IISA Executive Committee determines the winners. This year's subcommittee consists of Professors Saonli Basu; University of Minnesota (Chair), Anindya Bhadra (Purdue University), Sourish Das (Chennai Mathematical Institute), Suprateek Kundu (Emory University), Sujata Patil (Memorial Sloan Kettering), Parthanil Roy (ISI Bangalore).

Additionally, we need an email or letter to be sent to spc@intindstat.org from your adviser or department chair stating that you will be enrolled in a graduate program at the time of the conference. Email from an official email address or a signed letter on an official letterhead will suffice. Please note that the paper is only for judges to assess the research and select the finalists. This is not a submission for publication. Last date for submission is August 15, 2019. You will be notified of the decision by October 1, 2019.
